What is watercolour medium for?
That’s the most common question that people ask when they see watercolour mediums for sale. We used to have a lot of different mediums for oil or acrylic, but not for watercolours. Watercolours don’t have texture, they are water-based, so why and what does medium provide? Quite a fair question.
Normally, watercolour painting goes well even without any medium. However, if you like to achieve a fine glazing layer or enhance the colours, that’s where the watercolour medium will help. Also, if you have cheap watercolours that don’t work well, you can improve them with this medium.
Normally, the watercolour medium has gum Arabic, water, preservatives and some enhancers.
How to use watercolour medium?
Just add a drop to your colours, while mixing them on your palette. Add water if needed. Try how the colour works with the medium on a separate paper sheet as the medium will affect different colours in a different way. You can find more details about how to use the watercolour medium in our Blog.
