What does copal do for oil painting?
Elena, RUSART owner and formulator, researched ways to increase archival properties of paints. One of them is using copal medium. This medium is very concentrated, so just few drops will be enough to enhance durability.
Copal resin strengthens oil paints, increases resistance against humidity and oxidation, as well as adds durability in paint film structure. Although copal medium can be used as a finishing varnish, we don’t recommend to use it that way as restoration of your work will not be possible. Use our Copal Oil Medium as a painting medium rather as a varnish.
