Japanese watercolors are formulated with exceptionally high pigment concentrations, allowing them to perform beautifully even on highly absorbent rice papers. The pigments are ground to an ultra-fine consistency and contain less binder than Western watercolors, resulting in vivid, richly saturated color. When combined with traditional Western paints, they create distinctive and expressive effects.

These watercolors dissolve effortlessly in water, producing smooth, non-granulating washes with remarkable lightfastness. Each color is individually packaged in a 2¼” reusable porcelain dish, offering both practicality and elegance. Because every dish holds a generous amount of paint, a single color will last for many sessions.
