Nearly all of Tudi Billo’s papers are crafted from the bark of the mulberry bush, using a sustainable and time-honoured process.
The branches of the mulberry bush are carefully harvested, and the bark is peeled from them. Over the next 3–5 years, the bush naturally regenerates its branches, making this method environmentally friendly and renewable. The harvested bark is then beaten and cooked until it transforms into a smooth pulp. This pulp is dispersed in a large water tank, where a screen is gently moved through the mixture to evenly distribute the fibres. Once the pulp has settled, the screen is slowly lifted from the water, forming a sheet. The sheet is then dried by exposing the screen to sunlight, either vertically or at a traditional angled position, completing the handmade papermaking process.
