What does copal do for oil painting?

Elena, the formulator, researched ways to increase the archival properties of paints. One of them is using a copal medium. This medium is very concentrated, so just a few drops will be enough to enhance durability.

Copal resin strengthens oil paints, increases resistance against humidity and oxidation, and adds durability in the paint film structure. Although the copal medium can be used as a finishing varnish, we don’t recommend using it that way as restoration of your work will not be possible. Use our Copal Oil Medium as a painting medium rather than as a varnish.
