Old Holland watercolors have classic palette of colours. History of Old Holland company goes to Rembrandt’s times, when competition among artists got stronger and the number of painters reached the “boing point”.
According to different sources, the ratio of professional artists to total population in Amsterdam reached 1 per 600 citizens. And this number doesn’t include students, apprentices or other painters. Only those painters, who served high-end society, counted as professional artists. So, paint manufacturing became a necessary step to support and develop art industry.
In 1664 members of the Artists Guild set up the Academy of Fine Arts’ in The Hague and started making their own paints. This point is the beginning of Old Holland as a brand.
Of course, everything started with Old Holland oil paints and with the time more and more kinds of paints appeared in production.
