Jack Richeson Copal Medium, 3.75 oz

Copal is a natural resin medium that has been historically utilized by Flemish masters to create their distinctive, brilliant, enamel-like glazes. The Copal Painting Medium enhances the flow of paint from the brush and accelerates the drying time of oil colors. Unlike damar, copal exhibits solvent resistance once dry, making it ideal for achieving clean lifts during glazing. When blended with whites and lighter colors, Copal Medium helps maintain brightness and minimizes the risk of staining from subsequent color applications. Dark colors, when mixed with copal, appear richer and more vibrant, while also retaining a wet look after drying. It is important to avoid overloading the paint film with copal, as this may lead to excessive yellowing. In addition to improving paint flow and drying time, copal also serves as an excellent finish varnish.
