How to choose drawing materials: How to choose right willow charcoal

Willow charcoal is made of burned pealed willow sticks. However, burning process is quite complicated. First of all, masters insert sticks into special pots, which keep them straight. After that masters close pots tightly and seal them with clay to protect from air circulation. Now burning process can be started.

Willow sticks must be burnt for 3-5 hours at 300 °С temperature. Well done willow charcoal has warm black colour, can be easily applied on paper and softly blended from deep black to light gray shade. Bad willow charcoal leaves light gray lines and scratches paper.

We sell only high quality willow charcoal.
